NWP Apprentice Ecologist Awards: 2024
Congratulations to all the national and international Nicodemus Wilderness Project (NWP) youth volunteers who conducted an environmental cleanup or conservation project this year as part of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative! These youth volunteers, including those who are at-risk and disadvantaged, have helped rebuild the environmental and social well-being of our communities. Their work has improved local living conditions for both citizens and wildlife through education, activism, and action. A judging committee of NWP board members and past winners of the Apprentice Ecologist Awards have voted for the top five projects from 2024. These winning authors embodied the spirit of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative™ by demonstrating exceptional initiative, leadership, and environmental stewardship in their projects. The author of the top-ranked project essay received a $1,000 scholarship award from the Nicodemus Wilderness Project. The authors of the second and third ranked project essays received $500 and $250 scholarship awards, respectively. Since 2008, we have awarded $20,950 in scholarships to 47 Apprentice Ecologists for their college educations.
