Nicodemus Wilderness Project -- Global Registry of Apprentice Ecologists

Driving everyday along High Way 188 I saw countless pieces of litter blowing around in the wind. So one day I chose to head out in front of my house and start picking up litter. I became so involved with this project I lost track of the distance and was about four miles away from my starting point. The animal action was high compared to many other high ways in Texas. I personally experienced an armadillo and a grass snake. As I was picking up the litter I became disgusted with the amount of litter along the high way. The litter amount was so high I felt as if I never stood up until the hike started. Much of the litter would have never seen the high way, but thanks to many arrogant people, they feel that litter will just decompose in days. As a future Texas game warden, I expect to keep the wildlife habitats clean and fresh; with much of the wildlife polluted I hope to make a difference in the wildlife environment. By participating in beach and wildlife clean ups I feel I help the environment in many traditions. After completing my project I felt little tired, but most of all I felt better inside because the actions I participated in helped the wildlife environment.
