For my environmental project a group of friends and I decided to go clean up all the trash and polluted areas around the Rob and Bessie Welder Park. This is the only park that we have in our town and I believe it should always be clean so that children and families will not have to worry about the park being harmful or dangerous to them while they visit the park. A group of friends and I went around with trash bags and began to pick up every loose piece of trash that surrounded the park. To our amazement the park was actually very filthy and it took a while to go around and pick up all the trash. There were many soda cans, grocery bags, and to our surprise cigarette butts. We could not believe that there were so many cigarette butts around the park considering that it was mainly a family and children’s park. To reduce this litter problem I think they should put in more trashcans around the park and make sure that people who visit the park clean up there areas very well. It is extremely important to keep all parks clean so we can reduce the accidents and health hazards that can harm children and wildlife. I feel very strongly about the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative, because I believe that this helps build character and responsibility in all people.
