My name is Zach and I am currently a senior at Oneida High School in upstate New York.
In the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, I was elected president of my school’s “Reality Check” group. This group is one that takes great pride in making our city a better place to live.
Just in a short amount of time we have taken part in multiple community/school related projects. Some of these projects consist of stopping littering around our school, banning smoking from within 1,000 feet of our school’s campus, and also leading our school’s “stop underage drinking” campaign.
Even though in past years this group has mainly focused on just the student’s health and environment, this year we have decided to expand our efforts in various parts of the community.
This past fall, our group of volunteers focused on cleaning up many of our city’s parks and playgrounds. Our most recent project consisted of getting together and cleaning up the litter and garbage of our city’s largest park. This particular project consisted of twenty hard working members and parents who participated for many hours on Saturday, November 10th from 10am to 4pm.
We accomplished so much in such a little amount of time and our group has worked so hard to just make our parks a better place for people to come, relax, and enjoy themselves while taking pride in their community.
