I recently traveled to Israel. I saw Israel for its true self with wonderful sites and history, but also defiled with waste. It was disheartening to see so much litter in such a sacred place . . . Jerusalem. I focused my cleanup in an area of the Old City known as the Arab Quarter. In every corner there seemed to be something that needed to be picked up, thrown away or recycled. Many of the inhabitants I encountered during my cleanup responded with inhospitable glances, but I continued with my cleanup because I understood there is a responsibility for each of us. I strongly feel that my cleanup will go on to help reduce the litter problem in Jerusalem and reveal to the Israeli people that cleanup is critical upon making a difference in the environment.
