Nicodemus Wilderness Project -- Global Registry of Apprentice Ecologists

Many people see the Apprentice Ecologist photo essay as helping the environment as in picking up garbage on the sides of roads or cleaning a nature trail. Some view it as helping an elder. I see myself as helping people. Infants, teens, adults and elders. I am a voluntary firefighter. Houses that burn down I run in and save people. People who are in accidents I show up and get them out of the car and off to the hospital as fast as possible. I believe this is how I help my neighbors. Many wonder why I choose to be a volunteer fire fighter. Well it is because I enjoy helping people. When I show up to a scene I see horror all over peoples faces. And nothing can replace the feeling the good feeling I get when I see them smile at me as I tell them everything will be ok. Not everyone is emotionally prepared for this type of job thatâ€™s why only certain people can do this, and I am proud to say that I can do this. I can help people, save peopleâ€™s lives, and comfort them.
I love to help people. I didnâ€™t select a day to do this because I do this every time my tones go off. Helping people makes me feel like Iâ€™m doing the right thing and I like to believe that these people appreciate it. Weather its one in the afternoon or one in the morning I get out of bed and respond. I love doing this and I believe that my neighbors appreciate it and I will be there for them whenever they need me.
