My name is Nzenwa Mirian Star. I am a graduate of Abia State University, Uturu, Abia State Nigeria. I am a native Mbaise in Imo State Nigeria, West African and have studied Animal and environmental Biology. Presently I am serving in Jiagwa state as a corper, in the Nation Youth Service Corp Scheme in Nigeria.
As a corper here in Jigawa state I noticed that erosion is one of the major challenges people in this part of the country faces majorly.
So I came up with measures that can help check the erosion and conserve the Environment that was why I chose to do an Apprentice Ecologist Project.
I conducted my projects in schools, e.g. Government Junior Secondary School Fagoji Dutse in Jigawa State, Jigawa State Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (JARDA) in Jigawa State and New National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) permanent site Faneso, in Dutse all in Jigawa stae, Nigeria. The picture are shown below.
I undertook the projects in those areas due to the following reasons:
1. In Fagoji: Is to beautify the Environment and Check Erosion
2. In JARDA-: To conserve the environment and also check the wind and storm
3. In NYSC New Orientation Camp: To provide sheds. Beautify the environment, check erosion and reduce the effect of the storm, wind breaking and violent wind that normally occur in this part of the country.
The project will benefit the host community in all ways as stated above, they will enjoy beautified environment, their environment and houses will be protected from the violent wind attack and their houses safe from the attack of ugly erosion that eats deep into the ground.
It has given me more experience. It has made me to think more of how to better my environment and be a good Forestation manager and Environmentalist, it has given me ideas on how to make money out of forestry and at the same time be conscious of how to manage my Environment. I’ll be a good forestry manager and Environmentalist to my World. I’ll encourage every one to look out for the protection and Betterment of their Environment.
