INTRODUCTION
This site was located in living quarters in Dutse town, Jigawa State, Nigeria. I actually decided to clear up the site because of the impending health danger the refuse dump, that is very close to the road and a house, might cause of not evaluated.
ACTIVITIES
Before I started the clean up, I first went for sensitization of the few occupant of the quarters I could get at that moment. I finally was able to get four people from the closet near the dumping site.
I was able to tell them the dangers in dumping refuse so close to their home. Also, I told them my intention for the sensitization that I want to evacuate the already dumped refused and would not be expecting them to dump any refused after the clean up.
In their response they appreciated my concern, but did not join me because they were already busy when I came. I went ahead, with a rake and bag, to do the cleaning myself. I raked and packed them in the bag, dragging the bag to a waste drum close to the road.
CHALLENGES
One of the challenges I had, was the challenge of gaining entrance into people’s houses.
Note: Jigawa State, where this project is being carried out, is an Islamic state. And so going into people’s house is not accepted.
CONCLUSION
To ensure the sustainability of this project I did, I left the bag I used in evaluating the refuse in the dumping site, with little remains of refuse. Instructing the few people I sensitized to put their refuse inside the bag and should evacuated the refuse when the bag is filled up. Instead of pouring the refuse on the ground.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that environmental agencies should put refuse bin in place where people are fond of dumping refuse and strict warning should be giving to the people against wrong ways of waste disposal.
