As a part of my Eagle Scout project, it was my great pleasure to build wooden signs marking the various locations at The Watershed Nature Center, a local park in my hometown in Illinois. This park is my favorite local park by far because of the history and its nature oriented nature. The park, originally the town's sewage lagoon, was turned into a nature preserve, which now is quite beautiful. The goal of the nature center is to allow the public to see how the land in Illinois is naturally, without invasive species, and with minimal human touch. As my project, I built ten signs in total to mark nine locations throughout the park working closely with nature center board members to make signs that look nice while maintaining the nature feel. Additionally, I coordinated all workdays and found volunteers to bring the project to a total of forty three man hours. As a result of the project, the park and its visitors benefit from the knowledge of what they are looking at in each location of the park. Completing this project has inspired me to continue my love of being in the outdoors and being environmentally conscious.
