I chose to aid the environment by participating in a week long ecological trip to Bermuda. This was a wonderful opportunity offered by the high school which I am attending. As the years have gone on, the island of Nonsuch, once an ecological paradise, has been dwindling down due to human interference. In order to help restore the island to its original habitat so that the indigenous specious could continue to thrive we took many steps to help in this process. The soil was fertile but being slowly being consumed by weeds which drain the soil of its nutrients. To stop the situation before it escalated into something worse than the state it is in today, we lent a hand and pulled out all the weeds in a designated spot on the island. In order to place the nutrients back into the soil, we replanted native and endemic trees and plants while removing the ones that were harmful to the environment. Although this was a dirty project even with equipment, it was well worth it. You had a sense of accomplishment knowing you helped the environment and habitats for native species which were relocating from their home. This helps the community because they are retaining the sense of home and the way it was before human and technological interference. This has helped enrich my life because it made gave me a feeling of self satisfaction and inspired me to help my community at home and abroad. I now am traveling to different places worldwide to benefit other communities and the environment.
