Costa Rica
When I was young, I was told one ordinary man can change the world. I never really understood this concept, I knew political leaders could change the world, but it never occurred to me, that one ordinary man could change the world.
I did not really understand the concept until I was offered an opportunity to travel to
Costa Rica. When I arrived at camp, the air was thick and hot, there was no electricity, the water for the showers was extremely cold, and every night, we would patrol a mosquito-infested beach. When the first Leatherback Sea Turtle crawled up the beach, I was astonished by the size and the prehistoric characteristics. My group collected data such as, counting eggs and recording measurements. This data helped record the health and numbers. Every time a turtle emerged from the ocean I was speechless. At that moment it did not matter that I was drenched in sweat or eaten alive, all that mattered was I made a difference in the world. I made the first step to help an endangered species and started educating others to take their first step to preserve
the world.
Now I believe that not just any person can change the world, I believe that I can change
the world. With the right attitude, hard work and diligence anything is possible.
