Charles F. Kettering once said, "The world hates change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress." Living in today’s world, we have learned to accept change, yet, if we do not start to make this world a better place to live in now, it may be too late for future generations.
Some scientists may say that we are in great danger, others say we need to start being more earth friendly and some other people really just unfortunately do not care. Around the world, more and more people are just now realizing that change is the exalt thing we need in order for us to survive. I have come to realize that doing what needs to be done now, will help us in the future therefore I really wanted to prove to myself that I can be eco friendly no matter what the case. This is the exalt reason why I took part in the Warped Tour Eco Innovative Project of the summer of 2008 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York. 20 other volunteers along with me, collected cans throughout the entire day no matter where the cans where lying. The can that we collected weighed over 999 pounds consisting of 1000 cans. Even some of the band members playing on tour were eager to help out. Trying to persuade some of the people there to try and help out the earth a little by just putting a can into the recycling can instead of the garbage can make all the difference. Making some friends along with all the help we could get, Erin and Tara our supervisors of the day thanked each and every one of us for our get help. Getting a free t-shirt and meeting some new bands, this is defiantly something I could see myself doing next year.
Since being a volunteer, I have become increasingly more eco friendly not only at home but wherever I find myself. I have to admit that I do in fact have a little water bottle collection in my locker at school and I could really care less if my friends make fun of me. At home is where I see the most prevalent changes. Having to find myself unplugging lamps, radios and other electronics by saving energy but what some people might call it “vampire electricity”. Another Example are shutting of the lights when one is not in the room, shutting off the television when one is not watching it, not using a water bottle by using a reusable canteen, thinking twice before you print, not wasting paper because the more paper one throw out, the more trees are lost. Personally, I believe that America is finally doing something about being eco friendly because so many other countries for example Finland and Canada have been on this for years. It seems to me that not everyone truly understands what it means to save the earth because in all actuality, the earth is all we have. It’s not like the human race can just take a plane to mars and start a new life there, it just doesn’t work like that. Something so simple like one changing his or her light blub to an eco friendly one, which one can find at any store, can make all the difference. If every house could replace at least one light bulb, we could light a small city for ten years.
In conclusion, I really help that more and more Americans over the years will take part in being more eco friendly. Being part of the Warped Tour Eco Innovative Project was the best experience I have ever had.
