Living in northern Minnesota, I have learned the environment provides us with almost all of our entertainment. Whether the day is spent out on one of the 10,000 gorgeous lakes or biking on a secluded trail, almost everyone can be found outside. Even in the winter, snow days are spent on the frozen lakes or playing in the heaping piles of snow.

To eliminate some of the waste polluting our environment, I started a recycling project. By putting recycling bins in local businesses and churches I had the entire community help me increase the amount of recycling in our area. After gathering the bottles from the numerous collection sites, I sent them to a company called Terracycle. Terracycle used the bottles to package the fertilizer they sell. They also donated six cents for each bottle I collected to my local food shelf and family safety network.

My recycling project is ongoing and I am still promoting recycling in my community. As well as helping a company who uses recycled bottles and raising money for local charities, I know that I have helped to eliminate waste in the pristine parts of northern Minnesota where the environment is crucial to everyone's happiness.
