Whenever I get the chance to relax in the summer, Venice Beach is the one place that really allows me to sit back and take everything in around me. At Venice Beach, there's so much culture and sights that one can't find anywhere else. It's the perfect getaway. However, most of my friends and family try and drag me along to other beaches because they dislike the pollution that Venice Beach is unfortunately infamous for.

So this summer, I decided to drive to Venice myself and take a proactive approach toward cleaning up my favorite beach.
I hit the beach, grabbed a plastic bag and gloves, and scavenged the shore for any litter I could find.

I ended up picking up a lot of cigarette butts, styrofoam bits, and food wrappers. I was amazed how much litter was partially hidden underneath the sand. I probably ended up picking up more things buried in sand than things on the surface. I was glad I could collect the garbage before it could sink deeper into the sand.

After 2 hours of scaling the beach, I decided to call it a day. I was happy that I did my part to help clean up a place very special to me. After cleaning, I bought a smoothie and relaxed on the beach, happy that pollution didn't get the best of my favorite beach.
