This past year I contacted CEED (Center for Environmental Education and Discovery), a local Ecology Center, and asked if I could help. They guided me toward building a permanent structure that would be used for lifelong learning. They expressed a need for a bird feeding station for their education program. My project would enhance and immerse children and adults in interactive science and provide birds with easy access to a food supply. Over the past couple of months, I completed construction with the help of many people. In addition, I helped fine-tune the educational piece. One of the bird feeders I fundraised for notifies you of bird visitors, captures their photos, and organizes them in a beautiful collection. It also can recognize more than 6000 types and species of birds for you. Children and adults in the community now have the opportunity to observe and learn about the wonders of nature. My permanent structure is a part of the educational program where local elementary schools come to learn about the environment.
I am proud of my project. It has helped enrich my life and inspired me to continue my college studies in environmental science. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to work with diverse people. I learned leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, and I am delighted to share my love for nature with the community.
