I am the proud president of the Wantagh Animal Rights and Recycling Club. Each week, we bring our large rolling bins around the school to collect the plastic and paper recyclable materials from each classroom. A very special group of kids participate in this club,as they are always very cheery, even though most kids would just want to go home on a Friday. I can honestly say that we are like a family as it is not only a recycling club, but an accepting social club. We are accepting of all members that join, and I often find myself helping members with problems going on in their personal lives, as we are doing our weekly runs. Also, at the end of a long school week, I know that I can count on my W.A.R.R.( an acronym for Wantagh Animal Rights and Recycling) family to make me feel better. We all support each other, and that contributes to our great teamwork skills when it comes to recycling. I care so much about the environment and want to protect planet Earth, so our future generations can enjoy it, and because she has given us so much. The air that we breathe and the resources we have to eat and create shelter are all a gift from mother earth. She deserves to be protected. Now I understand how some may see a group of kids recycling paper and plastic in a small town school as insignificant. However, the way I see it is that if everyone did what we did, that would be a huge amount of effort going into protecting the envirornment. Landfills wouldn't be as big if everyone took the effort to put the paper and plastic they want to throw away in those shiny blue recycling bins. I am proud of my Warriors (what we like to call ourselves because we are members of the W.A.R.R. club), and I would't want to spend my Fridays any other way.
