It is rather unfortunate that some people in parts of the world do not have knowledge about the adverse effects of deforestation, i went into the most local part of Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria-West Africa to assess the activities toward protecting the environment. Unfortunately, I met two young men who deal in timber productions. Its was obviously seen that a larger portion of the forest was completely deforested. I asked "have you being planting trees for replacement", they said "no we cut the trees, then we move to next portion of forest". I told them deforestation is one factor contributing to global warming. Although they didn't understand what is global warming, I took time to explained to them what is global warming. They were very happy. They said "we have observed change in ayop (palm fruit}". I told them in every one tree you have cut, plant three for replacement. It has become my concern to carryout awareness campaign against deforestation in rural areas, in order to save our forest. We indulge in tree plantings to lay good examples in the rural community.

i am very delighted for the opportunity provided, to show the world ignorance about environmental degradations among the rural dwellers in this part of the world. Environmental problems are boundless. It does affect us all directly or indirectly, so we need a collective effort to address the menace. Thank you, Nicodemus Wilderness Project
