During my junior year of high school I decided I wanted to take oceanography because I love nature and everything about it. The ocean is the one place in the world that we know very little about, and yet it makes up over 70% of this world. With my class we got to go on multiple field trips to take samples of substrates and organisms and help clean up the beach. During this process I learned how vital it is to keep our beaches and oceans clean. We don’t think about the consequences of our choices and how they affect our everyday lives. The world is a big place and lots of people in it so thinking it’s okay just this once to throw a piece of plastic or trash will somehow end up killing an innocent life because you were too lazy to walk five more steps to the recycle. This experience and volunteering has taught me how much I love nature and helping protect it, its taught me the responsibilities we as humans hold because some organisms and animals can’t help themselves get out of a rough situation that they didn't cause, but help our world become a more tree loving green place.
