It is sad to realize that our planet is inhabited with pounds of trash. Some people do not feel guilty when they throw their garbage on the ground or out of their cars. I am a person who believes in conservation and communtiy service for a brighter and cleaner future.
On a cool December afternoon, my family and I picked up trash around my school's parking lot. Some of the things that we found were distgusting; my mom found hard-boiled eggs in a plastic bag that were on the verge of rotting. I found numerous cigarette boxes and all of us found fast food bags and cups. All of this trash was put into large black bags and was later sorted to be recycled at a landfill.
Doing this was definitely a reward for my school community and my family. Working together on a simple task like this can strengthen a family bond. We talked with each other, and managed to have a few laughs while we worked. A good sense of humor helps in any situation! When we finished the trash pick up, we drank hot chocolate and ate donuts. I hope that one day when I become an Environmental Scientist I can have more experiences like this one. I would love to work with other people who share my interest in our planet's well-being and inspire others to care about the environment.
