My name is James and I am working with a youth community based organization, called Green Youth Conservation Uganda. I am the secretary/vice chair man. We are managing a conservation project on a fishing village called Makusa. This is an island of about an acre with a population of 350 people, the island is on a rock above sea level, and here people live in shanty houses built with polythene bags, straw and wood. Most of the people on the island have been ignorant about environmental conservation and thus our reason and intention to carry out our project on this island. We are working on garbage collection and recycling, sensitization and education about marine environment conservation and clean ups. We are also working on establishing a toilet which is environmentally friendly and also creating awareness and protecting marine wildlife habitats, such us birds, monitor lizards and snakes on this island. Since the island is rocky, the waste from the toilet has been directly going to the lake endangering the live s of the people plus the aquatic life, this island has about 20 species of birds living on a rock adjacent to the island, it also has monitor lizards, snakes and crabs. We are mobilizing funds to work on the toilet and water for the islanders.
