Academic Accomplishment and Work Experience
I am a hardworking and dedicated honors student at Buena Regional High School. I am currently ranked ninth in my class of two hundred and three, and I take the most advanced academic courses my school has to offer. This year I am involved in Buena High School’s Horticulture program, as well as Environmental Biology. I stay after school a few hours almost every day. I am captain of Color Guard for the Buena Marching Band, historian for Academic Team, have been the treasurer of Drama Club, and a chairperson for the National Organization of FFA. I am also historian and chairperson of National Honor Society’s Go Green section. I take my academic course work very seriously, and I never miss an opportunity to learn or try something new. Last week, I was chosen to represent my High School’s FFA in New Jersey’s Fruit and Vegetable Identification contest, and as an individual, I placed third in the state. Of course, my academic’s always take top priority. Every year I have received special recognition in my high school for my academic high standing.
Agriculture has a special spot close to my heart. Beginning my freshman year of high school, I began to explore real world applications for my love of agriculture. I began working at Levari’s Farm Market and Greenhouses. Each spring, we start off the season by filling sixteen greenhouses with a wide variety of plants and flowers, all which we raise from seed. We learn how each plant is cared for and we handle all sales. In June, after the majority of plants have been sold, the local farmers begin to harvest all kinds of sweet and ripe fruit from their fruit trees. As an employee, I learned proper technique for handling, storing, and displaying fresh produce. I built a lasting relationship with my community’s local farmers, and have also developed necessary communication skills with customers to handle their problems and concerns. From my work experience Levari’s, I gained important life lessons, and I learned that nothing could be accomplished without hard work and dedication.
In the future I plan to educate others and spread awareness about environmental issues. I believe each generation must care for the earth and keep it healthy for posterity. Through studying Environmental Science, I will have a solid education in sustainability and hands on field training. Education begins at the very youngest level, and children will carry a passion for the Earth with them for the rest of their lives. Educated children grow into educated adults that are aware of their environmental impact, and will take steps to reduce their carbon footprint. I am a creative and dedicated thinker, and the environment is my passion in life. Through this scholarship, I will continue to reach out and share my love for the earth with everybody else.
