This may be quite different than other conservation projects, yet it is no less important. A few short months ago, a tragic oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. This tragic event created a spark in my mind... biofuels have often been spoken of, yet we have not seen any true results.
Therefore, I decided to create one myself! I recruited a few other International Baccalaureate students- each of them specializing in either Biology or Chemistry. (I myself specializing in Physics). Between the three fields, we believed that we could create our very own usable biofuel.
After many months, ruined test tubes, frantic notes, and countless ingredients, we finally created something that we believed would work. I tested the thermodynamics of the new biofuel through multiple physics equations- igniting the fuel and calculating many factors and sums. Although not as sustainable as gasoline, our biofuel (which ingredients we can not, by our own personal scientific reason, release) was comparably successful. After more tests, and much more research, we believe that we could uncover a new revolution in fueling.
When one thinks of conservation, you may first think of trees, plants, animals... yet if we do not find an alternative energy source and stop harming our planet with the use of oil, we will never be true conservationists.
