I am the Vice President of my the St. Augustine Juniorettes. Each member of the club has to plan one project that will better our community. Our club is ages 12-18 and we currently have 25 members. When it came around to be time for me to plan my volunteer project I decided to go with a beach cleanup. All of us girls lathered up in sunscreen and put on our plastic gloves, ready to get dirty. We covered a large stretch of the beach and picked up more trash than I ever knew our beach had. To make the project more fun for the girls I made a scavenger hunt. Some of the items on the list were metal cans, a balloon, a piece of cloth, etc. We split up into two groups and had a competition to see who could get everything on the list first. To add to the excitement we also said that the girl who found the most unique piece of trash would received a prize. Some people on the beach were so interested in what we were doing that we had people coming and asking us who we were and thanking us for cleaning the beach. We even had a couple who joined our group and added to the collection of trash. Overall the turnout was extremely well, not only did we pick up a lot of trash, but we managed to get a tan at the same time. The girls were really inspired by the project and it helped us to get to know each other and help our town.
