My name is Bradley and I am from Centennial, Colorado. I have been working diligently for several years toward the highest rank in scouting – the Eagle Scout Rank. One of the last requirements towards advancement is creating, organizing, and carrying out a community service project. In my efforts to become an Eagle Scout I began searching for a non-profit organization that could really use my help. I discovered Praying Hands Ranch. Their organization helps people with mental and physical handicaps experience joy and therapy through horseback riding. After several weeks I discovered that they were in need of a well built compost holding structure. I spent several months requesting a temporary license for AutoCAD, a 3D drafting program. After a while I was able to secure the license and begin designing the structure. I had to learn how to use the program, which is extremely complicated, but after some hard work I became familiar with it. I researched the science of composting and eventually created my own design that allowed for all of the necessities of the science. I drew it up in AutoCAD and presented it, along with a project plan, to the organization and a committee of adults in my troop. When it was approved by both parties I began searching for donations. Finding donations was by far the hardest part of the entire project. I had to obtain just under $530 in order to have all of the materials needed for my project. After contacting countless companies, seven different stores donated materials to make the project successful. I then organized twenty-seven different people to help out on the two days that I had planned to finish creating the structure. I gave leadership to the entire project and it was a complete success. Under my leadership, the volunteers completed a total of one hundred sixty-three community service hours.
After the project was over I wrote a forty page report explaining what I had accomplished in my project. I wrote thank you notes to those who had donated materials for me, and I took care of all of the paperwork needed to advance. Today I am an Eagle Scout.
