The waste generated by a population is a primary a reflection of the people's consumption patterns and thus of their socio-economic characteristics. As the same, waste generation is conditioned, to an important degree, by people attitude toward waste, their pattern of material use and waste handling, their interest in waste reduction and minimization, the degree to which they separate waste and the extent to which they refrain from undiscriminating dumping and littering.
The interrelated nature of services problems and the active role of residents-who are often, owners-builders of their houses all for adapted, sect orally, integrated development approaches which depends, to a considerable degree, on the cooperation and participation of residents. Households and members of clean up young youth club have important roles to play, not only as consumers or users of waste collection services, but as providers and/or managers of local levels services. In many low-income residential areas, community-based solid waste management is the only feasible and affordable solution.

This picture was taken during clean -up campaign at Muthurwa Eastate when voluntary young youths were collecting polythene papers for recycling.
