Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth, Maine is a natural and man-made beauty. The Park consists of the most photographed lighthouse (Portland Headlight), the actual fort (Fort Williams), and scenic waterfront picnic spots. Every time I go there the park is kept up very nicely and is never littered upon. For weeks I have been wondering how am I going to clean the environment when Maine is so clean?
There was one day, however, I went to this park for a church function and noticed a particular picnic spot covered in trash. I did not go and expect to clean up the environment, but because of my duty as a citizen of the world, I got a trash bag and went at it. 1 hour later I had a full trash bag and I felt empowered. Volunteering whether it is cleaning up a park or something else gives you the greatest feeling in the whole world. It is worth more than gold.
For something so beautiful how could people just leave trash on the ground? It would be so easy for people to just distribute the trash in a bag and/or a garbage can. How hard is it? Obviously for the people who left the trash, it was very hard. We only have one Earth! No matter which walk of life you are from, we must do our part as global citizens to protect the only home we have. It starts with our ENVIRONMENT!!! It starts NOW!!!
