The park that I chose to clean is called Penn Treaty Park. This park is where William Penn signed a treaty with the Delaware Indians that they would not make war with each other. I picked this park because I was at the playground with my mom one day and I saw that it was very very messy. And I said, well, this park is an important and also very beautiful park on the Delaware River and I think it should be cleaned. I decided that I wanted to clean up the park, so I went online and saw Apprentice Ecologist website and I said, well, why don't we go and clean this up and I'll get the certificate. And so we did that today, July 7, 2007.
When we got to the park, it was an area that was basically covered in trash. We picked up bottles, bottle caps, tissues, and lots of left over firecrackers from the Fourth of July. When I was leaving the park, I looked back and I saw that we had cleaned up the whole area and now it looked completely clean.
When I left I said to my mom, "Wow, I think that that was really good and I feel really proud." And then my mom said back to me, "I think you really should feel proud because you helped this park a lot today." I think that what I did today will really make a difference in the park because I think that people litter when they see other people litter, and they say if it's okay for them, why isn't it okay for me. I think people will see that there is a real difference in the park from the last time they were there. I think that the people will stop littering because they will see that someone cleaned up the park and that someone thinks the park should really be clean.
Litter Less in the Future!!
