Nicodemus Wilderness Project -- Global Registry of Apprentice Ecologists

This year, I took it upon myself to form a club at my highschool centered around environmental sustainability and conservation. It has been dubbed "eco-club," and I believe it's made a good impact upon my school. This club that I have created teaches students how to reduce their carbon footprint, how to have more of a green thumb, what they can do to help reduce waste and protect endangered species. We learn how to plant and tend sends that we nurture till they're fully grown.
Our biggest accomplishments that my club has would have to be our pollinator stations and our aquaponics system. To supplement my club's purpose, we have implemented a fully functioning aquaponics system right here in our very own school, and this teaches students about certain ecosystems on a smaller scale, and helps in conservation.
Despite being centered around water, aquaponics and hydroponics actually consume 80% less water than conventional farming, so there's less water waste, and no soil waste. The fish we grow in the aquaponics system are non-invasive, purposefully so that when they are mature, we can release them into areas specified by a game warden where population is below standards, aiding in repopulation efforts.
Our other project that my club has completed are several pollinator stations along the school property. These are meant to attract certain pollinators like bees and butterflies, and provide sustenance for them that will hopefully contribute to aid in population contributions. These stations contain plants like milkweed, coneflower, Mexican sunflower, sedum and other pollinator-friendly plants that for the sake of their survival.
This project of mine, creating a club that allows young adults to engage with their environment has been so important to me. It is so crucial that young people know how to care for the world, because sooner or later, protecting our world will be up to us, and I wanted to create a space where we raise them to have the tender green thumb that will allow us to effectively restore our environment, or at least stop further damage to it.
