As a youth delegate for Sierra Service Projects, through an interdenominational nonprofit organization for Christians. Last summer, I took on a on complex project with students all around the Northern West Region, while working on ways to establish help for the coastal environment. Youth who went were beyond obligated to restore and conserve areas of Arcata, more specifically, the Tolowa Coast, being the home to some of the most diverse plant and wildlife species in the state. However, that diversity was compromised by European beachgrass, eradicating nearly all native dune plants. So we had a project where we pulled pounds of that grass, so that it would no longer affect the natural habitat. And being a person who loves learning about the importance of our ecosystems , this experience has allowed me to take an interest in wanting to go out more and not only help in one area, but all around California. Sierra Service Projects has shaped my intellectual vitality, leadership, and care for the environment, while providing me with full moral support along the way.
