Climate change has been described as one of the biggest market failures. There are many great natural climate solutions that could make a difference. For example, literally millions of students are giving up their education to protest, work hard to restore the trash that gets blown into the ocean, or even tag trees.

With the club, myself and many other charismatic individuals created, we searched for ways to make change to our community that would one day lead to making change around California. At first we wanted to start small and just cleanup around the school campus, but with the help of many other schools in town, we went above and beyond. So with connections through our Biology/Physics teacher, Dr.Clarke, we contacted many non-profit organizations that would be willing to provide the necessary tools we needed for our cleanup project. The next week, the California Oceans Conservative and Great Big White contacted us back and asked if we would be willing to help on National Earth Cleanup Day after they helped us with our project. So we took the offer, and the following day we removed 300 tons of trash from the city.

With months of planning and getting people together from different parts of the city including schools, non-profit organizations, churches, hospitals, and even the great homeless community, we had another cleanup, but it was solely on the lakes, rivers, and deltas. The count came down to about no less than 120 people, with 120 exciting faces. I was the happiest person alive during that moment, seeing faces filled with wonder and anger that the city was being treated like this ready to show the government that if they do not act, then we will.

Today, I still seek theoretical research inside and outside the classroom with the Environmental Justice Facility here in the city with students and advisors who share a similar devotion in making a change for the benefit of our planet.
