In this project, I was tasked to help a zoological scientist in her tasks to upkeep and improve upon the conditions of the Snow Leopards in their captive habitat. We worked tirelessly over five months to clean their exhibit, create new enrichment items and manage the mating pairs success in becoming comfortable around each other which is necessary to reproduce. We created enrichment items like scratch pads made out of wood, aerial platforms made out of firehose and play toys made out of recycled barrels. This project meant the world to me in that it gave me a chance to experience wildlife management with my favorite species. It gave me an outlet to see what it would be like to work alongside endangered species and inspire people around me to think consciously about how their decisions might affect organisms worldwide by telling my story. It allowed me to realize my goals of wildlife rehabilitation in my community and take part in an act of conservation. I will never forget this project I conducted because it initiated my career in conservation and wildlife rehabilitation, in which the memory will always be beside me motivating me to accomplish my goals in environmental studies and management.
