It all started years ago when I started asking my mom questions about why the city was not picking up trash in certain neighborhoods. One neighborhood would be spotless and beautiful while my close-by neighborhood would be filled with trash. It would look as if people were using the ground as an open dump, even though people live directly across from the trash. I would be so upset when I saw this and complained to my mom about how the city would allow this. I thought there should be a way to clean this up since the city was not doing it. Then my mom said that if you want something done, you must not complain about it, but actually do something about it. My mom suggested that I should clean it up. Then, she went to a community event and announced this clean-up day with all the guests. Our council member happened to be there so my mother announced the date and time in front of him. (;

So, we decided that we would make flyers, invite people, and post the flyer on social media to get people to join us in our cleaning efforts. We called it Community Clean-Up Day. It was held on Saturday, May 19th.

This first picture is the view of the trash we compiled. There was so much.

I felt this was an environmental/ community injustice.

The cleanup area was on Manhattan Avenue and around Central Park Plaza.
