My project that I undertook was to create a bio retention cell. In other words it is a relatively large area that is typically plagued by storm water, whether it be direct rainfall or runoff. In this particular instance, runoff was flowing down the hill and laying in a nearby property. The Youngwood Borough gave me this project in order to fulfill the requirements for my Eagle Project. My objective was to solve the runoff problem with an environmental friendly solution. After a long summer of planning we finally broke ground on August 16th. The Youngwood Burough employees helped me with this part of the project because I was unable to operate the heavy machinery. First we dug out the old soil which was the remains of an old building and parking lot. Once we finished digging, new soil was put in that was comprised of topsoil, sand, and mushroom manure. Once the new soil was put in, my scout troop and I were able to plant a tree and other plants that could absorb a lot of moisture from the soil and lay down mulch to make the project look finished. Since the completion of this project no complaints have been heard about flooding.
