I have always enjoyed gardening around my house. But when I was part of creating a community garden on one of our main streets named Laketon, I was on cloud nine. This event took place in Muskegon community in Michigan. This is area was right next to the busy road and near many places where crime has happened. Creating a garden in this area was important for the community to get involved and take pride in growing something so beautiful. Taking care of this part of town will hopefully provide an enrichment for the community members to be involved in something else than drugs. Some of these people may have never took a shovel to the dirt and planted a seed before. Allowing a safe environment to grow food and flowers will let people find a new hobby and spend time wisely. This project has inspired me to expand my own garden and give extra produce to my neighbors in need. Growing my own food gives me a sense of self reliance instead of buying all of my groceries at a chain business.
