My project took place in the Lakeland Middle School Outdoor Learning Lab, on November 7th, 2015. This was a two plan project; the first was to remove Asian Bush Honeysuckle and the other was to get the community interested in connecting with the outdoors. This idea came to me when I found out that the school had invasive plants that were causing soil erosion, killing off native plants, and preventing animals from getting nutrient rich food.
To with this ambitious task, I was supported by my school’s Future Farmers of America chapter, and our county Soil and Water Conservation District, which provided a tractor to pile up the brush. During the course of this project I learned want can happen when plants that are not native to an area are introduced. This project showed me that everyone has a responsibility for taking care of the environment, from picking up trash to managing recreational parks and areas.
