TEEN FOR A CHANGE IN PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT.
my name is Chelsea from Kenya,14 years old,a student in Our Lady Of Mercy Girls High School currently in form one.
My interests and hobbies are,protecting my environment,nature walk,reading environmental books,adventure and passion in tourism.
It was the year 2004 when I heard of a Kenyan lady called "Wangari Maathai"a Nobel Laureate and an Environmentalist. One day in a year we used not to go to school for a tree planting activity.l grew wondering why we planted trees and why "Wangari Maathai"was the talk of the day when this activity took place.little did l knew the importance of the ecosystem.
In the year 2011 the same name of proffessor Wangari came up after her death.The surprising part of it she was to be cremated in a bamboo frame coffin made of water hyacinth and papyrus reeds to avoid wooden coffin for the sake of saving a tree not to be cut.This was explained to us by our environmental studies teacher as an example to show us on how to value and protect our ecosystem. It was too motivating and from then I started thinking of what I could do to protect the environment within my community. I noticed that a lot o deforestation was being done. Many people had ventured into timber business, charcoal burning and fire wood , which had affected a lot on climatic changes even causing the crop failure.
Aforestation was my ideal project. i locally mobilised teens in my community. We formed a group of 20 members and called it " youth for change ". During the vacations we could plant trees in the homes of the members. Our parents shown us small pieces of land where we planted small man made forests. The activity went on and our parents felt motivated too. They promised to support us when we needed their help.
At the moment, many teens are requesting to join us in protecting our environment.Currently we are looking forward to register our group under the social services as we practice the activity in the entire community.

I pray our God to provide our Nation with enough rain so that our crops and the entire environment are good. After too much deforestation, our rivers had almost dried up.
I thank God because as you can see on my photo this river is full again and rain is enough.
I am happy for this background.

It is a insightful venture for me going through your piece of marvelous script. It surely does carry a strong message for my country fellows because our tradition demands cremation which requires a lot of wood, sooner or latter we would have realized the impact of using wood for cremation.
