I believe that the reason why students do not get involved in helping the environment as much as they could is because they do not feel emotionally attached to the environment. The reasoning behind making the week was to get students at a young age to become emotionally attached to the environment through fields that they are interested in such as mathematics and history. Thus, I put the week (Earth-Sustainability Week) around Earth Day and in this week I had teachers integrate sustainability education into their curricula for the week so students could learn how the academic fields of study can influence the environment. Overall, the week was a success since many students joined my school's Green Team after the week and when I interviewed some students about the week, they said that they felt more inclined to help the environment through their interests. It was a great week overall.
