Nicodemus Wilderness Project -- Global Registry of Apprentice Ecologists

I live on the Chesapeake Bay. Our home is next to a water front park and we have three kayaks and canoes. On dozens of canoe treks, I exposed friends to the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem. I showing them wetlands, how they cleanse the water flow, protecting the environment. I opened their eyes to the natural beauty and wildlife seen only by a stealthy canoe. I also used my childhood skills to instruct people how to trek through the muddy wetland parks without losing their shoes or disturbing the habitat.
Since my neighborhood is on the water next to the Bay, one day I motivated my friends to restore a trash filled wetland area and its tributary stream in Triton Beach Park. The wetland was a mess after years of neglect. With help from the kids, we restored it into a community asset now called the Pennington Pond Wildlife Habitat. Today the wetland filters clean water into the pond and out to the Bay. I still help maintain this area and often find younger neighborhood children exploring this special wetland. It is registered as wildlife refuge habitat by the National Wildlife Federation #150,767. (www.penningtonpond.org)
