Did you know that you, your parents, their parents, and so on, have been waging war against an opposing force, since the beginning of time? A battle of vines and earth against plastic and chemicals. As an environmentalist, my goal is to conserve our natural resources, and help humans coexist with nature.
My project at the Weeki Wachee State Park was to use my brawn against the invading torpedo grass cultivated centuries ago to save the indigenous plants that manatees and other animals live off of. My group worked for six hours picking up trash in the river, and decimating the dangerous expanse of torpedo grass. We covered a wide area that state park rangers are unable to take care of, due to their other duties. It was a grueling six hours of weeding, picking up broken glass and cigarette buds, and fending off water spiders, but we managed to save the indigenous plants of the area, the animals living in the river, and cut down on pollution.
This is just one battle of many that my group has waged against our adversaries and will continue doing so, with our war cry of Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future.
